Many thanks to Trish Jackson http://romanticreviewramble.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-next-big-thing.html
for inviting me to be a part of this week’s The Next Big Thing
blog posting group.
The Next Big Thing is a meme
that is creating an ever-growing wave through the blogs of authors who write in
a variety of genres, with each participant answering the same questions about
either a work in progress or a work currently being marketed. Each author then
chooses five other authors to keep the chain going. The following is my
contribution:
QUESTIONS:
1. What is the working title of your current/next book?
1. What is the working title of your current/next book?
The book I’m
currently working on is Book Seven in my ‘The Xandra’ series. So far it has no
title. That won’t come until I’m finished with the novel.
2. Where did you get the idea for
that book?
After
reading ‘Daughter of the Dark’, Book One in ‘The Xandra’ series again, I
realized there was so much more to tell. In the first book I mentioned a
research team. It was only natural to write about what happened to that team.
3. What's the genre of the book? Science Fiction/Fantasy
4. If you could pick actors to play
the lead characters in your story, who would you pick?
Wow, it
would be nice to have this book made into a movie. I can see Leonardo DiCaprio
playing Rob Cameron, the main character (he needs to have a nicely trimmed
beard, though). Will Smith would have to be Irwin Hunter, the second character,
and Bruce Willis would play the third
one, Malone. Daniela Ruah from NCIS: Los
Angeles would be great as one of the female
characters.
5. How would you describe your book in one sentence (10 words or less)?
A stranded
research team on an alien planet.
6. a. How will your book be published, submitted through the traditional route to a traditional publisher or will you be handling it yourself through Indie Publishing methods?
I will be
submitting it to my publisher Melange Books, LLC
b. If you're an Indie Author, will you be publishing through your own Indie Publishing company or in a collective with other Indie Authors?
I’m not an
Indie Author
7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of this book?
I’ve been
writing on this book for a few months now, but only because I got sidetracked
by other projects. I’m planning to get it finished by April 2013. I’m at 60,000
words and aiming for about 100,000.
8. What other books within your genre are similar to yours?
Ever since
I’ve been concentrating on writing and publishing my own books, I haven’t read
much by other authors, but before this I read extensively. So I’m only familiar
with authors who were popular over a decade ago. Philip José Farmer, Harry
Harrison, Jo Clayton. These are all big name authors, but they are my idols. A
writer who is still very much alive is Timothy Zahn. Another of my favourite
authors. He writes about adventures on alien planets humans are trying to
colonize. My book differs though because of the explicit erotica. Farmer was
the only one who wrote in that genre.
9. Who or what inspired you to write this book?
I wanted to
write a story about explorers on an ice planet and the alien creatures living
on it.
10. What about your book will pique the reader's interest?
There are
six books in this series so far. People who have read any of the books in the
series and liked them will definitely be interested in this one. Anyone who
loves Science Fiction and adventures on alien planets will, hopefully, want to
read this book. There are bizarre alien creatures populating this strange and
yet familiar world. Readers who love a little erotica in the stories they read,
especially sex between humans and aliens, will find explicit erotic scenes in
this novel and the previous ones. There is even a little romance between human
characters. Readers who enjoy exploring new worlds will be interested.
I don’t have
any authors yet who I have tagged, but I will add them in the next few days.
