On every planet there are some species of animals that are becoming extinct for many different reasons. One of the biggest reasons is the destruction of their habitat and from overhunting. To save these animals it was decided to create a Sanctuary reserved only for animals. There would be no colonists and no hunting. They called the planet Artemis. The humans were chosen to be the custodians of Artemis. The Guild of Game Wardens was created and they set up Observation Post all over Artemis, not only to watch over the animals but also to prevent illegal hunting. Everything was going well for decades until the day it was suspected that a star-gate existed on Artemis. That was the day when the peace and tranquility of an animal paradise came under threat of coming to an end.

Artemis is unlike any other planet in the Galaxy. There are no colonists allowed to settle. It is teaming with wildlife. The majority of the animals roaming the surface of the planet are animals imported from other planets. They are animals that were and are on the verge of becoming extinct.

The High Senate decided to set aside one planet to save these animals. The humans were voted in to become the custodians of Artemis. That's when the Guild of Game Wardens was created. The Game Wardens were responsible for the welfare and the survival of the animals. They were given absolute power to be able to do their job. The Game Wardens were the Law on Artemis. Outposts similar to what the Scouts had were built and scattered all over the planet. The posts were manned by two or three Wardens.

Obviously, a planet full of wild animals will attract undesirables. Trophy hunters will try to hunt and bag exotic animals they may not be able to hunt even on the animals' native planet. It was the job of the Game Wardens to keep that from happening.
